Spring Time

My favorite time of the year will arrive this week, yes, it is spring equinox time and once again the days will be longer than the nights. I love going to a special place to celebrate the holy days and really mark them in some ritualistic way. So this year, we are renting a cottage for a few days in a place that is known for its wildflowers and I can't wait to be there. It is going to be lovely and very restful!

Tutankhamun

We finally made it to the Tutankhamun exhibit at the Deyoung Museum in San Francisco and it was fabulous!! The place was packed but at least we did not have to wait in any lines due to our membership which enabled us to enter in the VIP line which you know I loved. That entrance is worth the price of the membership. Once we were inside, it was butt to butt with people but I just walked to the front of every display and took long looks at everything. I really felt a sense of entitlement after all, these are our ancestors. Sometimes, if my children were around, I would start to kick some knowledge to them for all who were in listening distance. I would say that most of the people in the exhibit did not have a clue and most of them walked around with those darn digital recorders to their ears hoping to gain some understanding.

Summertime!

Oh when will I get back to my painting and daily practice of spanish and guitar? It seems that this summer, thanks to facebook, I have been particularly busy because people are always inviting me to events and I can hardly wait to meet my friends in the so called real world as opposed to the virtual world. Yes, I am having too much fun but the down side is that I am not getting much creative work done. It is all of this light that makes me just have to get out of the house and mingle, but, I think that is the natural order of things, summer means getting out and about. Winter will be here soon enough and it will be cold out and I will be snug in hummingbird cottage with plenty of time to be introspective.

District 9

Just returned from the theater where I saw District 9 and it was fricking fantastic!! I don't really like bloody movies and this is what they said on the ratings but it really wasn't bad at all, I simply closed my eyes and it was over. Most of the time I worry when I see Black people in these types of movies because you know that they are there to get fucked up, but everything in this movie made sense accept for a couple of "Shaka Zulu" witch doctor type scenes that were just stupid. All in all, I found it to be a very creative and highly entertaining film.

Life in the slow lane not!

Lately, I am pretty much never at home because I am being invited to events by my facebook friends. I thought that my relationships would remain in the matrix but now, they are coming into my three dimensional reality. I wanted a change, I wanted to get out of the house. Actually my goal this year was to find a home away from home and I am constantly out and about and my home is starting to show the affects of me never being in residence. I am starting to miss sitting back and enjoying a pot of tea in the hummingbird cafe. I want to have time to read all of the 30 some books that I have purchased this year and started to read but am never home to finish what I started. Now next week, I am going on vacation and my home will be left in the care of my sons. I am hoping that after I travel , I will come back home and be happy to just be in hummingbird cottage.

Temple of Illumination

Here I am with the Empress of Hip Hop, Soulflower, and because of her coming to town from Miami to perform at the Temple of Illumination, I was propelled from my everyday cool life into an alternate reality which was very interesting and weird.  We almost bailed on the whole adventure but we decided to take this ride on the strange side for this one day and we learned some things, laughed and shook our heads at other things, and totally enjoyed a few things.  I enjoyed my sis Soulflower and also these muslim sisters from the U.K. called Poetic Pilgrimage, spoken word and hip hop artist.  All in all, my sweetie and I were glad that to be out and about living life in the cool lane.
